LOLbooster REV B: Hello, Goodbye!
Well, the first batch of production LOLbooster boards sold out before the shipment even arrived. Awesome. I’ve placed another order for 10 more boards, which means that LOLbooster will be officially back in stock in three weeks; I’ve re-opened the product page for pre-orders on this second batch. The only difference between this batch and the previous is a small tweak to the silkscreen. I haven’t even had a chance to photograph the boards yet! The assembly and installation instructions for the REV B board are nearly complete, and will be up soon. In other news, for the sake...

They are here. They look good. I haven’t yet had a chance to sit down and test them yet, but I’m quite pleased with the quality of the results, especially given the price. Accordingly, I have not reservations recommending ITead Studio’s PCB fabrication...

Just a quick update on LOLbooster and OpenLCB Dev Board. The design for LOLbooster REV B has completed final testing (ginormous hat tip to Ken S), and should be headed off to the fab house later today has been sent to the fab house for manufacturing. The first shipment of OpenLCB Dev Boards from ITead Studios is supposedly in the mail, and should arrive soon. However, the recent discussion and subsequent revision of ITead Studio’s design rules has me a bit worried about what I’m going to find when I get the boards. There may be some green-wire work needed to make them...

Update 09 March 2011: Of course, one should always order parts and try placing them on a printout of the PCB before one ever commits to a layout. Naturally, that’s what I did, and indeed I found mistakes in some of the footprints (for example, in the AT90CAN128 footprint—that would have been a problem!). So, please note, I’ve just now uploaded an updated PCB and schematic file; check the date on the schematic, it should read “2011-03-09″. Schematics and PCB layout for my latest project, the OpenLCB Development Board, are now available. I expect to have these off for...

October has been a surprisingly busy month, with little time to devote to electronics or model trains. I’ve got a final schematic candidate for LOLbooster drawn up, and a PCB as well, and having purchased some larger breadboards, I’m now in the process of breadboarding the whole thing. Testing is painstakingly slow, unfortunately, as I carefully evaluate each module over a range of conditions. I want to ensure the best possible finished product. But for those readers (all two of you!) who’ve stuck through the post famine, then perhaps the image at top provides a tempting mors
